Student Services - Support at Eccles College

Personal Tutors

At college you will have your own personal tutor that will meet with you on a regular basis. They will be the first person that you can see if you have any problems or concerns or simply want someone to seek advice from.

When you start college your personal tutor will help you settle in and you will both agree on an action plan to help you meet your targets.

Your progress will be continually monitored and you will be kept informed of important issues such as careers advice, university open days and applications and health issues.

Study Support

Study Support can offer you the extra help you might need to succeed on your course and develop your skills for the future. We have a dedicated team of experienced staff who can support you with additional needs such as:

  • English, communication or maths
  • English is not your first language
  • A specific learning difficulty, such as dyslexia, dyspraxia, ADHD or asperger’s syndrome and/or a physical disability
  • Any other difficulties that may form a barrier to your learning

We offer one to one appointments, in-class support and appointments with specialist tutors. We can also provide you with access to specialist equipment and resources.

Learning Resources

The Learning Resource Centre has a wide range of resources. There are books, journals, newspapers and study packs as well as CD-ROMs and DVDs. The LRC is well-resourced with multimedia computers linked to the internet. The college provides guidance to students on how best to maximise the educational benefits of the internet.

Financial Support

Education Maintenance Allowances (EMAs)

The Education Maintenance Allowance is a government scheme that gives financial support to young people attending college courses. You could receive up to £30 a week plus additional bonus payments worth up to £500. For more information or to obtain an application pack, you can visit Student Services or the EMA website www.ema.dfes.gov.uk.

Learner Support Funds

Learner Support Funds are available to some students and can provide financial support towards equipment, trips, special clothing and resources for the course. You can pick up an application form from Student Services.

Konnekt to Faith

We believe that faith is important to many students. We have a dedicated multi-faith prayer room, not only to fulfill the spiritual needs of students of faith, but also to be there when students of all faiths and none need someone to talk to.

We have a safe and relaxed environment for students to follow their belief freely and have chaplains from Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Sikhism, Judaism and Buddhism. Those with no faith are also most welcome to come and talk to us, get help from the chaplains and join in our many events.
