International Baccalaureate

 


The International Baccalaureate is an alternative route to traditional A-Levels. It enables students to study more subjects than possible with A-Levels and prepares students for both further education and employment. The IB is taught in 129 countries and respected throughout the world.


 

The IB will encourage you to:


·         Ask challenging questions.


·         Learn how to learn.


·         Develop a strong sense of identity and culture.


·         Develop the ability to communicate with and understand people from other countries and cultures.


As this course is different to A-Levels, applicants considering this course are strongly advised to find out more at a college open evening.


 


What will I study?


You choose six subjects from six groups, including:


·         English.


·         History, psychology or geography.


·         Maths or maths studies.


·         Visual arts, chemistry or psychology.


·         Biology or physics.


·         French or Spanish or beginners’ Spanish.


 


You also do the following core units:


·         Extended essay.


·         Creativity action service.


·         Theory of knowledge.


 


How is the course assessed?


Each subject area contains a mixture of external and internal assessment. You will be assessed in a variety of different ways and so it will not simply be a question of performing well in written exams.


 


What enrichment will there be?


Activities include:


·         Relevant trips and visits.


·         Guest speakers.


 


What could I do next?


This course will prepare you for university or employment.
