Psychology

This is a very popular course with students doing a wide range of other A-Levels.

What will I study?

In year one you will:

·         Study a range of famous psychological research. For example one study looks at the thinking of gamblers; another study is a case of multiple personalities. Other topics explored include autism, sleep and dreams, obedience and tyranny. You will explore how psychologists carry out their research on humans; how they collect data about human behaviour.

In year two you will:

·         Build on the work done in the first year and explore debates in psychology, approaches and perspectives. For example some psychologists believe we are a product of our early experiences, some suggest that we are ’wired’ a certain way. In forensic psychology you will learn about how psychology can help catch criminals, what psychology can do to ensure that a jury is persuaded of someone’s guilt or innocence. In psychology of education you will learn the effect of relationships and the effects of beliefs and expectations on achievement.

What enrichment will there be?

Activities include:

·         Relevant trips and visits.

·         Guest speakers.
