What will I study?
In year one you will study:
· Aspects of narrative. You will study two novels: The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini and Enduring Love by Ian McEwan. You will study two collections of poetry: one by Alfred Tennyson and one by John Keats. There will be an examination of 2 hours. You will answer two questions, which will require reference to all four texts studied. It is an open book examination, but texts taken into the examination room must not contain student notes.
· Dramatic genres. You will study two plays within the dramatic genre of tragedy: Othello by William Shakespeare and A Streetcar Named Desire by Tennessee Williams. You will produce two pieces of coursework, one in relation to each text. Each piece of coursework will be 1200 – 1500 words, so that the coursework portfolio will be 2400 – 3000 words in its entirety.
In year two you will study:
· A further six texts.
How is the course assessed?
Assessment will be through one examination (60%) and one coursework module (40%).

· Trips to theatres.
What could I do next?
An AS or A-Level in English literature will allow you to progress to a wide range of university courses, especially arts or social science based subjects, and of, course, English degrees.
This course is highly valued by many employers in areas such as journalism, personnel work, law and advertising.
