Chemistry

The laboratories are well-equipped, modern and light. Students also have the opportunity to join the Science Society that runs regular events throughout the year that are both informative and fun. Tutors have good contacts with universities including Oxford and Cambridge.

What will I study?

You will study:

·         Foundation chemistry: atoms, bonds and groups.

·      Chains, energy and resources.

·         Practical skills in chemistry.

·      Rings, polymers and analysis.

·      Equilibria, energetics and elements.

·         Practical skills in chemistry 2.

How is the course assessed?

Two units at AS and A2-Level are assessed through written examination. One unit at AS and A2-Level is assessed through internal assessment.

What enrichment will there be?

Activities include:

·      Science Society.

·      Engineering Club.

What could I do next?

Higher education opportunities / further study could lead to progression to university to study at degree level in a related subject. Chemistry is an acceptable qualification for entry to many unrelated degree courses and professions, e.g. law, accountancy, etc.

From a career point of view, chemistry is an essential subject for medicine, dentistry, veterinary science, pharmacy and, of course, chemistry and biochemistry.
