Biology


 

The laboratories are well-equipped, modern and light. Students also have the opportunity to join the Science Society which runs regular events throughout the year that are both informative and fun. Tutors have good contacts with universities including Oxford and Cambridge.

 

What will I study?


·      Biology & disease – infectious pathogens and disease, the digestive system, functions of heart and lungs.


·         The variety of living organisms - genetic and environmental factors, DNA, the cell cycle, classification & biodiversity.


·         Investigative and practical skills - investigating biological problems.


 


How is the course assessed?


AQA specification AS has two external tests and a practical investigation. A2 also has two external tests and a practical investigation.


 


What enrichment will there be?


Activities may include:


Science Society.


Trips to universities.


Visiting lecturers.


Relevant trips.


What could I do next?




  • Higher education opportunities/further study are available on successful completion of the course. You may go on to study BSc degrees in geological sciences, genetics and molecular biology to name a few.


    Career opportunities include biologists who are employed in many organisations including laboratories, hospitals, breweries and universities.
