Students Open Garden Shop and Café To Local Community
18 May 2010
From Monday 24th May to Thursday 27th May, students at Salford City College, Eccles Centre will be managing a garden shop and café at the centre, on Chatsworth Road and are inviting members of the public to join them for a cup of coffee or some lunch and to purchase the plants, flowers and herbs on sale in their garden shop.
The students managing the café and shop are from the Skills For Working Life department at the Eccles Centre and are all studying Entry or Foundation Level courses. All produce sold in the café is made by hand, by the students and all flowers, plants, herbs and hanging baskets for sale in the garden shop have been grown or put together by the students, as part of their course.
The café will be open from 10.00am throughout the week and the garden shop is open from 9.30am to 3.00pm. Anyone is welcome to the centre during the week and will find the café and shop at the Bungalow, which is on the right through the main gates of the college.
Joy Wright, Head of the Skills For Working Life Department at the Eccles Centre, said: “Opening the café and garden shop to the public for a week is an annual event which the students always thoroughly enjoy. It gives them a chance to share their hard work and also gives them a sense of a real working job. We would encourage anybody from the local community to come along and see the fantastic delights which will be on offer.”
