Students Lift-Off To Chase The Stars
30 April 2010
On Thursday 29th April, students from Salford City College and local schools attended a special Science Society event at the Eccles Centre.
The event was centred around rockets and students had the opportunity to build and launch their own rockets. As well as this, the Starchaser Skybolt rocket was wheeled to the Eccles Centre for students to view and learn about.
The Skybolt is 9 meters tall, can carry a cargo of up to 20kg and can reach an altitude of over 83 miles. Unfortunately the large-scale rocket wasn't allowed to be lifted-off at the event but the students had a fantastic time launching their own smaller rockets, which had capabilities to reach up to 300 metres.
This society was part of the ongoing Societies at the Eccles Centre which are run in collaboration with Aimigher, to encourage students to learn new skills and sample different careers which they may be interested in.
