Professional Lawyer Visits Eccles Students
01 March 2010
Alex Bates, practising barrister and international criminal lawyer, visited Eccles Centre students recently, to share his experiences and offer advice in the field of international criminal law.
Alex was called to the bar in October 1994, practising criminal law at St Paul’s Chambers, Leeds until May 2003. He then took up a position for the United Nations in Kosovo as the mission’s youngest ever International Prosecutor, responsible for the conduct of cases and investigations into war crimes, inter-ethnic violence, terrorism and weapons offences.
He spoke to students studying Law, History, Politics and International Baccalaureate students about his UN role in prosecuting war criminals.
Students thoroughly enjoyed the presentation and were very keen to ask Alex questions about his role and experiences.
