Students Prepare For Mock Courtroom Battle
27 October 2009
Schools and colleges across the UK are currently preparing their cases for this year’s National Bar Mock Trial event. Teams of budding barristers, court clerks and court reporters have been looking at cases and are preparing their entry to the regional heats of the event, which is run by the Citizenship Foundation.
The team from Salford City College consists of students studying various subjects, from A-Level Law to the International Baccalaureate to BTEC Interactive Media. Students will take on different roles to prepare a prosecution and defence and will battle the cases out at Manchester Crown Court in November. The regional heat will consist of the college team pitting their debating skills against other colleges from Greater Manchester, the winner of which will go through to the UK Final next year.
Kevin Callaghan and Helena Taylor, Law tutors at the Eccles Centre, are leading the team, along with help from professional barristers and ex-students who have recently graduated from Law school.
Last time the college entered a team into the competition, they skilfully reached the UK Final. This year’s team are hoping for the same success, and more!
