Introduction

This course is an introductory level 1 and an intermediate level 2 welding course aimed at those who wish to sample the industry.

Course Outline

Students will choose in one of the following areas:

• Manual Metal Arc Welding (MMA)
• Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (TIG)
• Metal Inert Gas Welding (MIG)
• Oxy-acetylene Welding

Manual Metal Arc Welding (MMA)
• Safely use arc welding equipment
• Produce finished welded joints to an acceptable standard i.e. BS4872
• Select correct welding equipment settings
• Recognise and select correct welding consumables
• Recognise weld associated faults and make suitable corrections where applicable

Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (TIG)
• Safely use arc welding equipment
• Produce finished welded joints to an acceptable standard i.e. BS4872
• Select correct welding equipment settings
• Recognise and select correct welding consumables
• Recognise weld associated faults and make suitable corrections where applicable

Metal Inert Gas Welding (MIG)
• Safely use arc welding equipment
• Produce finished welded joints to an acceptable standard i.e. BS4872
• Select correct welding equipment settings
• Recognise and select correct welding consumables
• Recognise weld associated faults and make suitable corrections where applicable

Oxy- acetylene Welding
• Safety relevant to oxy-acetylene welding
• Interpretation of engineering drawings and symbols with regard to oxy-acetylene welding
• Oxy-acetylene welding equipment and controls
• Preparing material for oxy-acetylene welding
• Equipment set up
• Oxy-acetylene welding operations
• Fault recognition
